A VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) is a unique 17-character alphanumeric code assigned to every motor vehicle at manufacturing. You can find your VIN in several locations:

• On the lower-left corner of the windshield (visible from outside the car)
• On a sticker on the driver's side door jamb
• In your vehicle registration document (V5C, carte grise, Fahrzeugschein, or equivalent)
• On your insurance documentation
• Stamped on the chassis near the engine bay

The VIN method is recommended for most Renault and Dacia vehicles, as it does not require removing the radio.

The radio serial number is printed on a label attached to the top, side, or rear of the radio unit. To access it, you typically need to remove the radio from the dashboard using radio extraction keys (also called release keys), which are available at most auto parts stores.

On some Ford models, you can retrieve the serial number without removal by pressing and holding buttons 1 and 6 (or 2 and 6) simultaneously for several seconds — the serial will scroll across the display.

The serial number format varies by manufacturer: Renault serials often start with a letter followed by digits, while Ford serials are typically in the format M + 6 digits or V + 6 digits.

For Renault and Dacia vehicles built after 2010, the VIN method is recommended — it's faster and doesn't require removing the radio from the dashboard. For Ford vehicles, only the serial number method is available — the VIN method does not work for Ford. If the VIN method doesn't return a result for your Renault or Dacia, you can also use the serial number as an alternative.

Not necessarily. If you use the VIN method (recommended for most Renault and Dacia vehicles), you do not need to remove the radio at all — just locate your VIN on the windshield or registration document. For Ford vehicles, the serial number is required, which typically means removing the radio — but on some Ford models you can retrieve the serial by pressing button combinations on the radio itself without removal.

No. RadioCodeAuto does NOT support Renault Trucks — heavy commercial vehicles such as the Renault T, D, C, K series, or older Magnum, Premium, Midlum, and Kerax models. Renault Trucks is a separate company from Renault passenger cars (it's owned by Volvo Group) and uses completely different radio systems and databases.

Our service covers Renault passenger cars and light commercial vehicles only — this includes the Kangoo, Trafic, and Master vans, which are part of the Renault car range, not the Renault Trucks range.

Step 1: Turn on the ignition and the radio. The display should show "0000" or "CODE".
Step 2: Use the preset buttons (1, 2, 3, 4) to set each digit — press each button repeatedly until the correct number appears in that position. For example, if your code is 4253, press button 1 four times to show "4" in the first position, button 2 twice to show "2", and so on.
Step 3: Once all four digits are correctly displayed, press and hold button 6 (or press the right arrow/validation button on some models) to confirm. The radio will unlock immediately if the code is correct.

For Ford 6000CD and similar models: Turn on the radio — it will display "_ _ _ _" or "CODE". Use buttons 1 through 4 to enter each digit. Press each button the number of times equal to the digit you need (e.g., press button 1 three times to enter "3" in the first position). After entering all four digits, the radio unlocks automatically.

For Ford V-series radios: Enter the code using buttons 1–6 directly, then press button 5 to confirm.

The "WAIT" message appears when too many incorrect code attempts have been made. This is a security lockout to prevent brute-force guessing. To resolve it:

• Leave the radio turned ON with the ignition key in position
• Do NOT turn it off — this will restart the timer
• Wait between 30 minutes and 2 hours depending on the model
• The display will eventually return to "CODE" or "0000"

Important: turning the radio off and on again during the wait period will restart the timer from the beginning. Once "CODE" reappears, carefully enter the correct code.

If the code doesn't unlock your radio, check these common issues:

• Verify your VIN or serial number — even one wrong digit will generate a different code
• Check your entry method — the method differs between brands and models (see our specific instructions above)
• Check for "WAIT" mode — if too many incorrect attempts were made previously, the radio may be in security lockout
• Check if the radio was replaced — if a previous owner installed a radio from a different vehicle, the original VIN won't match the current radio unit
