Renault Trucks Radio Code

Swapped the battery or switched off the battery isolator, and now the radio in your Premium, Magnum or Midlum is asking for a code? All you need is the serial number on the radio's label. Type it in below and the Renault Trucks radio code comes up in a few seconds. Don't bother with the VIN: it can't give you this code.

Where do I find the serial number?

Finding the serial on your truck radio

Every one of these radios has a white sticker on the casing, usually on the top or round the back. The serial is the barcode line with 16 characters beginning with 89F, and it's often printed between two asterisks.

  • Get the radio out of the dash. The sticker sits on the casing, so it's hidden while the unit is fitted.
  • Find the line that begins with 89F. It looks like *89FKDDB311735018*. Asterisks or no asterisks, both are fine.
  • Skip the part number. Lines starting with 28 (like 28214596), 7421, 7422 or 21 are part numbers. They won't give you a code.

Renault trucks covered

From the Premium and Magnum through to the T, C, K and D ranges, lots of Renault Trucks left the factory with this radio. The model doesn't matter: if the serial starts with 89F, we can work out the code.

Need the code for a Renault Master, Trafic or another van? Vans have a different radio. You'll find that one on our Renault radio code page.

Entering the code on the truck radio

Turn the radio on and wait. The screen runs through ID CHECK and LOCK before stopping at 0000. That's when you can start.

  1. Digit 1: turn the SELECT knob to the first number of your code and press SELECT.
  2. Digit 2: turn to the second number and press SELECT.
  3. Digit 3: same again for the third number.
  4. Digit 4: turn to the last number and press SELECT. The radio unlocks.

Three wrong codes and it locks: the screen stays on LOCK and won't accept anything. Leave the radio on with the ignition on for roughly an hour, and when 0000 comes back, enter the correct code.

Renault truck radio not working? Common questions

What drivers, fleet managers and truck workshops ask us most.

Can I reset the radio without the code?

No. Once it asks for a code, only the right code will unlock it. Disconnecting the battery again just brings you back to the same screen.

Do I need to take the truck anywhere?

No. The serial number on the radio's label is all you need. Take the radio out, find the line starting with 89F and type it into the generator.

Why doesn't the VIN work?

The code belongs to the radio, not the truck. A radio moved from one truck to another keeps its own code, so the VIN tells us nothing. Use the 89F serial from the label.

The radio won't come on at all. Is that the code?

No. A locked radio still lights up and shows ID CHECK, LOCK or 0000. If the screen stays dark, check the radio fuse and the power supply first.

I've fitted a second-hand radio. Which serial do I use?

The one on that radio's label. The code goes with the radio, not with the truck it's fitted in.

There's no line starting with 89F on my label. What now?

Make sure you're not reading the part number (28…, 7421…, 7422… or 21…). If you still can't find it, send us a photo of the label on live chat and we'll take a look.
